I want to make sure that 2019 is your best year in music. 

With this in mind, I want to lace with you my three best music marketing strategies for rappers in 2019. 

All three of these music marketing strategies come directly from real-life experience: 

I’ve spent the last 8 months traveling around the world on tour (3 continents, and 15 separate countries), marketing a gang of new music. 

Similarly, I’ve opened How To Rap as a brand to entirely new markets from the tour and gained some key insights. 

As is my way, I want to make sure you get all of the best music marketing insights from this along the way.

Without further ado, let’s talk about the best music marketing strategies for 2019: 

1) Instagram Stories

And more specifically, horizontal use of video in Instagram stories. 

I feel like this is a severely under-utilized part of music marketing currently. 

We are all super active on Instagram, and more specifically these days we are all checking out Instagram stories on a daily basis. 

If we track consumer behavior as opposed to what we’d LIKE to see in music marketing, we would find that Instagram stories are an undervalued asset.

EVERYONE’S using them. 

2) Outdoor Photos / Videos 

More specifically, shooting them during the “twilight hour”. 

Ask any great filmmaker… the best light to use is still natural light.

Even with CGI, even with all the advances in technology. 

Ain’t nothing like the sun. 

Considering this fact, you should be taking your photos for Instagram (even just basic ones), video blogs and music videos, and everything else outside.

The key to shooting outside is really to shoot during “the twilight hour”… the hour before sunrise and the hour before sunset.

This is a hidden Hollywood secret that everybody in the industry knows but doesn’t mention.

Take advantage of the twilight hour and God’s natural atmosphere to get the best pictures and quality videos out of your work.

3) “Shouting Out” People Rather Than “Pulling Them In”

At this point in social media history and music promotion, people have “CHECK THIS OUT!” fatigue.

Everyday, we are overwhelmed by “check my new song out”, “please listen to my demo”, “please come to my show”-itis.

The new “flip the script” marketing tactic is to shout somebody out…

…Show them love first, and get them to reciprocate.

An example in my life recently is starting an Instagram stories series called “#WhoToFollow”, where I shout out a relevant hustler in my community to my IG story.

This serves two purposes:

First, it shows everyone watching that I am an associate of dope MF’ers. Success by association.

Secondly, it gets me back on the radar of the person I’m shouting out.

Mere exposure effect dictates that the more times a person interacts with me or my product (in your case, music), they will begin to think it’s good.

This is science, people 🙂

So, in your music marketing in 2019, shout out people more than try to “pull them in”, so you don’t fatigue them with promotion-sickness and then also keep YOU on THEIR radar.
